January 2026 Meeting Report

  • The ANC 3B officers for 2026 will be Brian Turmail, Chair, Rob Rodriguez, Vice Chair, Kevin Lavezzo, Treasurer and Melissa Lane, Secretary.
  • Police Report.   Lt. Johnson reported that there were only 5 crimes in the last 30-day period.  The most serious was a burglary in the 2700 block of Wisconsin.  Someone went into an unlocked apartment and stole a computer and credit cards.   The other crimes were one motor vehicle theft (a moped) and three thefts which included one package theft and one theft from auto.   Lt. Johnson said that the lower crime numbers are because there are more police deployed to the area and those arrested for theft are being held longer (60 to 90 days).   Commissioner Turmail asked about collaboration with Federal law enforcement.  Lt. Johnson said that the MPD Crime Suppression Teams are working with their federal counterparts.
  • DDOT Notice of Intent (NOI) to Remove Rush Hour Restricted Parking in the 2400 Block of Wisconsin Avenue to Accommodate Streatery Spaces.   Commissioner Turmail explained the Notice of Intent that issued by DDOT.   ANC 3B passed two resolutions urging DDOT to lift rush hour restrictions on the westside of Wisconsin Avenue in Glover Park to allow for the continuance of existing and establishment of new streateries.   These streateries benefit both the Glover Park businesses and community by providing outdoor service space for customers.   Because of the narrow sidewalks on the west side of Wisconsin, outdoor space for restaurants is not possible on the sidewalks.     The new DDOT regulations for streateries require that streets do not have rush hour restrictions to have streateries.   The NOI seeks comment on lifting rush hour restrictions on the west side of Wisconsin south of Calvert Street NW and north of Whitehaven Parkway NW.   The deadline for submitting comments to DDOT is February 6th.
  • Commissioner Rodriguez reported that there was a major gas leak at the corner of Cathedral Avenue NW and New Mexico Avenue NW the week of January 5th.   Part of Cathedral Avenue had to be dug up.  The problem was resolved and repairs made within 24 hours.
