April 2025 Meeting Report

  • Police Report.  Lt. Paul Johnson reported 7 crimes in the last 30-day period.  One was a domestic incident at Guy Mason Recreation Center on 3/30 that was closed with arrests of a father and stepfather for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (knife).  The remainder were 2 thefts from auto and 4 thefts.  One of the thefts was also closed with an arrest.  On Thursday, May 1, there will be a community walk in PSA 204 starting at Guy Mason Recreation Center at 6:30 pm.
  • Grant Request from Glover Park Village (GPV).  Holly Pollinger, Vice President, and Pat Clark, President of Glover Park Village submitted a grant request for$2,500 to develop, print and mail an outreach brochure to benefit older adults and other in the greater Glover Park area.  One of 13 villages in DC, GPV was established 14 years ago and serves the greater Glover Park area (mostly in ANC 3B).  It is staffed by volunteers and unlike several villages, does not charge for services.   A motion was made to approve the grant.  It was seconded and passed unanimously.
  • Grant Request from Glover Park Citizens’ Association for Glover Park Day 2025 (GPD).  Commissioner Lane introduced Cheri Meyer, co-chair of Glover Park Day.  Because Commissioner Lane is also a co-chair, she recused from the vote.  The request is for $2,500 to offset some of the costs of the tables, chairs, and the stage for Glover Park Day on May 31, 2025.  The overall cost is approximately $7,300.  GPD is an annual event in it’s 34th year.  It is a festival to celebrate Glover Park that draws businesses, artists, crafters and musicians from across the DC area.   A motion was made to approve the grant.  It was seconded and passed unanimously.
  • Briefing on Lead Free DC (LFCD).   Sean Moore, Communications Manager from Lead Free DC/DC Water, presented updates on LFDC’s progress on replacing all 42,000 lead service lines in DC.  As of early April, almost 8,300 lines have been replaced.  All lines must be replaced by 2037.  An online status dashboard is available at https://www.dcwater.com/LFDCDashboard depicting progress to date.  While homeowners own the whole service line, DC Water is responsible for maintaining the portion in public space.  Replacement is done at no charge, but homeowners must complete a right of entry authorization to provide consent for DC Water to replace the line.  A website is available for homeowners to check when the free replacement program is scheduled for their area: https://www.dcwater.com/lead-free-dc-construction-dashboard.   Mr. Moore’s full presentation is available on the ANC 3B website.
  • Kendall Gibson, Ward 3 manager for the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS), said that Ward 3 MOCRS hold office hours every month.  This month, it will be from 2- 5 pm on April 25th at the Palisades Library.  On April 18, DC Health Link will be at Cleveland Park Library offering enrollment for recently unemployed workers and anyone else in need of health insurance (https://www.dchealthlink.com/lost-coverage). Finally, with summer break for schools happening soon, Mayor Bowser has launched “My Out of School Time” (MOST) platform to help connect parents to ward-based after-school and summertime activities. It provides information for activities for younger kids to internships and summer jobs for older kids.
  • Holly Pollinger announced that an open house will be held at Guy Mason Recreation Center on April 15 from 1 to 2:30 pm for Federal employees and others who have recently lost their jobs.
