In February 2011, ANC 3B passed a resolution supporting bicycle lanes and markings on New Mexico Ave. and Tunlaw Rd. Recently, DDOT has been working with affected ANCs to begin discussions of how these bicycle lanes could be designed, and has presented ANC 3B with a draft design. The draft design can be seen here. It includes a combination of dedicated bicycle lanes or shared road markings on both sides of Tunlaw Rd. between Calvert St. and Fulton St.
Of note, this design would result in a net loss of six parking spaces. It would result in the loss of 7 parking spaces on Tunlaw Rd. adjacent to the Georgetown North Condominiums, 9 parking spaces near the Archbold Glover Park apartments, and 3 parking spaces on the north side of Tunlaw Rd. near the intersection of Tunlaw and 39th St. The plan would add 13 parking spaces on the south side of Tunlaw Rd. near the intersection of 39th and Tunlaw.
ANC 3B will be discussing this plan with DDOT officials at the June 13 ANC 3B meeting.
